Base to Base Gondola - Alpine Meadows Resort/Palisades Tahoe Resort/Mid Station

Alterra Mountain Company commissioned us with the exciting challenge of connecting two separate ski resorts by way of a 2.5 mile long enclosed gondola line. The project sites included the Alpine Meadows Resort, the Palisades Tahoe Resort, and the construction of a new mid mountain turning station. Each site provided it’s own unique challenges for the design of the gondola terminals, platforms, and associated building construction and renovations.

Alpine Meadows Resort: The design entailed crafting a three-story building right next to the brand new gondola terminal and the renovation of the existing base lodge building. This dynamic new structure is designed to accommodate both the parking and maintenance needs of the adjacent gondola system. Our design features a sleek wash bay for cabin care, dual grip bays for essential equipment, and convenient two-level access for servicing the gondola cabins. Inside, you'll find an NDT testing room, a break room and locker room, alongside other various functional spaces to ensure seamless facility management. This building is not just a hub for operations but a testament to innovative, functional design.

Mid-Mountain Turning Station: A vital linchpin to the new gondola line, the Mid Station helps to connect both resorts across the difficult mountain terrain. The design of the Mid Station was envisioned to emulate a modern structure rising from the remains of a crumbling castle while blending with the adjacent mountain. As this site lies directly in an high avalanche area, saftey and mitigation were some of our primary concerns and challenges.

Palisades Tahoe Resort: The design of the Palisades Terminal involved created a new ADA accessible terminal platform that would tie into the adjacent plaza.
